Art Deco Artemis Necklace
In ancient Greek mythology, Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and twin sister of Apollo. She is the goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, and nature. She was often said to roam the forests and mountains.
Artemis was also a kourotrophic (child-nurturing) deity, who is the patron and protector of young children, especially young girls. She preferred to remain unmarried and was one of the three Greek goddesses over whom Aphrodite had no power.
As one of the most venerated Ancient Greek deities, Artemis lives through literature and art from ancient to modern world. As seen here is an exceptional Art Deco necklace crafted in platinum and set with a rock crystal, which is reverse carved to depict Artemis with her bow. She appears to have just let fly an arrow.
The image is within an openwork calibré-cut sapphire and single-cut diamond frame, suspended from a similarly-cut diamond ribbon bow surmount, via a fine fetter-link chain, mounted in platinum.
