  • A decorated iron axe from early 20th century, styled after that made for August I, elector of Saxony (1526-86). Formed entirely of steel, 34.5cm long.

     

    Each side of the head is etched with scrolling tendrils enclosing the Danish Royal arms, while the integral haft is decorated with bold scrolls of foliage and marine monsters.

     

    Axes of this type were illustrated in the decorative arms and armor catalogs of Husqvarna from 1902. The original is preserved in Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Dresden (inv. no. P0008).
