Vintage Silver Kukri Brooch
In 1814-1816, the British East India Company fought against Gorkha in what is now western Nepal. Although victorious, the British were greatly impressed by the fighting qualities of their Gurkha opponents. The kukri also came to be known to the Western world:
“Each man wears, besides his sword, a crooked, long, heavy knife, called “cookree” [kukri], which may be used in war, but is also of the greatest use in all common operations, when a knife or a hatchet is needed.” — James Baillie Fraser, 1815
Indeed, the kukri is versatile. It is effective for chopping due to its weight, and slashing due to its curved shape. In addition to its use in combat, it is the most commonly used multipurpose tool in the fields and homes in Nepal.
Here we present you a silver kukri brooch! It includes a beautiful repousse sheath and a fully removable blade.
