Vintage Silver Filigree Galleon Brooch

"Filigree" comes from the Latin words "filum" (thread) and "granum" (grain). 

Filigree jewellery features interwoven fine wire, which have been coiled or twisted to create exquisite patterns.

Here is an excellent example of filigree brooch from mid-20th century. Look at how the twisted silver threads become ropes on the ship!
